Composition for saralgyl
Sarraceniaceae
Benzyl Alcohol                                0.75%

Characteristics for saralgyl
Sterile aqueous solution of soluble salts of the volatile bases from pitcher plants. Local application on the musculoskeletal system of horses.

Indications
Relief of nerve pain. A positive effect of Saralgyl can be expected when treating the following nerve pains; Sciatica, intercostal neuralgia, alcoholic neuritis, occipital neuritis, neuralgia of the plexus brachialis, neuralgia paresthetica, lumbar neuralgia, trigeminus neuralgia.

Dosage and administration
Paravertebral injection:   cervical                   2 – 3 ml
Dorsal                     5 – 10 ml
Lumbar                   5 – 10 ml
Sacral                     3 – 5 ml
Caudally                                                                 10 ml
Sciatic nerve                                                          10 ml
Local infiltration                                                    5 – 10 ml
Paravertebral:        the injection site need to be determined carefully.
Perineural:              in some cases, as with the sciatic nerve, one can choose to inject in the course of the nerve.
Local infiltration:    by several injections, spread over the painful area, the whole area will be affected by diffusion.

Adverse Reactions for saralgyl
Local irritation may occur in the innervation area of the nerve.
Often this is experienced as a “heavy feeling”, sometimes as warmth or as a passing worsening of the existing complaint.

Precautions
The patient should remain laying down after the injection for 10 – 15 minutes.

Contraindications
Do not use on parts of the body with have inflammations.

Withholding period
Do not use on animals used for consumption.

Warnings
Intravenously or intra-arterial injections must be avoided.

Storage
Store at 15 – 25°C.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
